SWOT Analysis Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats Give them 5 minutes to complete the SWOT analysis for their chapter

Why Set Goals? Focus Direction Motivation Coordination Benchmarking - Focus: what are we going to do? Direction: how are we going to do it? Motivation: how do I know I’m successful? Helps overcome procrastination. climate change is overwhelming, our goal literally takes an act of Congress. Transforms insurmountable mountains into walkable hills Coordination: to ensure all your bases are covered Benchmark: think about how well we document lobby days. What if we didn’t realize we now have 20 good meetings to 1 bad now vs. 3 to 1 just a few years ago? What are the challenges in setting goals? How do we overcome those?

SMART Goals Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time-Based Vision – to pass carbon fee and dividend by building political will. That is our dream. But a dream without a goal is just a wish. Goal setting has tremendous motivational power as well. Christie Manning story. Give a story about fundraising. If the goal is $100, how much will people give? What is the goal is $10,000? Specific – what do you want to do? Measurable – how will you know when the goal is achieved? Achievable – is it possible to attain the goal? Relevant – does it apply to the overall objective? 5 levers of political will Time-Based – does your goal have a specific start and end date? Role of group leader – let members set their own goals, hold them accountable to them at monthly meetings

One thing that worked well for your group last year and one thing you will do to hit one of your goals this year. Chapter Goal Setting and Planning Break into districts and sit with your members from your chapter – 30 min.
