Kwa Zulu Natal Report on the Performance of the “Class of 2017” Presenting the successes and the challenges of the 2017 improvement plan

The overall targets of the 2017 improvement plan The main objectives of the 2017 academic improvement plan were: To improve the overall pass percentage of KwaZulu Natal by 10% from 66.4% in 2016 to 76.4% in 2017 To improve the pass% of each district by 10% thus moving the highest district to 87.2% and the lowest district to 62.4% To increase the number 0f 100% schools To increase the percentage of Bachelor passes by 10% To eliminate the 0% schools To improve all gateway subjects by 10%

KwaZulu Natal overall pass percentage improved by 6.47%

Highest district (81%) & Lowest district (64.83)

Highest district improvement is 12.49%

The 100% schools increased by 28.2%

Bachelors increased by 4.23%

The 2016 “Zero% Schools” were eliminated in 2017 BUT three NEW “Schools” emerged in 2017 Isabelosethu High School Gcinokuhle Secondary Sizamiseni Secondary Sondoda Secondary Inkumane High School Mthonga High School Siyazizamela Secondary Idundubala Secondary Thandayiphi Secondary Ngwanya Combined

TEN GATEWAY SUBJECTS

Performance in ten gateway subjects Life Sciences and Maths Lit. improved by 16.19% and 7.43% respectively Physical Sciences and Geography improved by 7.35% and 6.4% respectively Economics and Mathematics improved by 6.09% and 3.68% respectively Accounting and History improved by 2.63% and 2.46% respectively Agricultural Sciences and Business Studies declined by 2.48% and 4.71% respectively

LANGUAGES

Performance in Languages Performance in English Home Language in twelve districts was between 82.41% and 96.02% Performance in IsiZulu Home Language in twelve districts was between 99.40% and 99.91% Performance in IsiXhosa Home Language in four districts was between 99.8% and 100% Performance in Afrikaans FAL in twelve districts was between 73.91 and 98.13% Performance in English FAL in twelve districts was between 91.33% and 98.31% Performance in IsiZulu FAL in twelve districts was between 91.33% and 98.31%

ARTS SUBJECTS

The province improved the Arts subjects in 2017 Dance was performed at 100% in all the three districts The performance of Design was between 87% and 100% in the four districts The performance of Dramatic Arts was between 95.14% and 100% in the eleven districts The performance of Music was between 92.31% and 100% in the nine districts The performance of Visual Arts was between 97.61% and 100% in the twelve districts

TECHNOLOGY SUBJETS

Most of the districts excelled in Technology subjects The performance of Civil Technology was between 84.0% and 100% in the twelve districts The performance of Computer Applications Technology was between 59.22% and 98.16% in the twelve districts The performance of Electrical Technology was between 85.0% and 100% in the eleven districts The performance of Information Technology was between 58.33% and 100% in the elven districts The performance of Mechanical Technology was between 84.35% and 100% in the eleven districts The performance of Engineering Graphics and Design was between 89.15% and 100% in the twelve districts

ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT

Economic Management Sciences Performance of twelve districts in Accounting was between 51.36% and 74.19% Performance of twelve districts in Business Studies was between 54.43% and 72.86% Performance of twelve districts in Economics was between 61.67% and 83.22% Performance of six districts he province in Maritime Economics was between 60% and 96%

Agricultural Sciences The performance of the four districts in Agricultural Management Sciences was between 93.9% and 100% The performance of the twelve districts in Agricultural Sciences was between 64.36% and 85.99% The performance of the four districts in Agricultural Technology was between 88.89% and 100%

MATHS & SCIENCE

Mathematics and Sciences The performance of the twelve districts in Mathematical Literacy in 2017 was 56.95% and 80.48% The performance of the twelve districts in Mathematics in 2017 was 27.12% and 55.09% The performance of the twelve districts in Life Sciences in 2017 was 70.0% and 82.0% The performance of the twelve districts in Physical Sciences in 2017 was 22.22% and 74.78%
