Kwa Zulu Natal Report on the Performance of the “Class of 2017” Presenting the successes and the challenges of the 2017 improvement plan

The overall targets of the 2017 improvement plan The main objectives of the 2017 academic improvement plan were: To improve the overall pass percentage of KwaZulu Natal by 10% from 66.4% in 2016 to 76.4% in 2017 To improve the pass% of each district by 10% thus moving the highest district to 87.2% and the lowest district to 62.4% To increase the number 0f 100% schools To increase the percentage of Bachelor passes by 10% To eliminate the 0% schools To improve all gateway subjects by 10%

KwaZulu Natal overall pass percentage improved by 6.47%

Highest district (81%) & Lowest district (64.83)

Highest district improvement is 12.49%

The 100% schools increased by 28.2%

Bachelors increased by 4.23%

The 2016 “Zero% Schools” were eliminated in 2017 BUT three NEW “Schools” emerged in 2017 Isabelosethu High School Gcinokuhle Secondary Sizamiseni Secondary Sondoda Secondary Inkumane High School Mthonga High School Siyazizamela Secondary Idundubala Secondary Thandayiphi Secondary Ngwanya Combined

TEN GATEWAY SUBJECTS

Performance in ten gateway subjects Life Sciences and Maths Lit. improved by 16.19% and 7.43% respectively Physical Sciences and Geography improved by 7.35% and 6.4% respectively Economics and Mathematics improved by 6.09% and 3.68% respectively Accounting and History improved by 2.63% and 2.46% respectively Agricultural Sciences and Business Studies declined by 2.48% and 4.71% respectively

LANGUAGES

The province reduced the negative impact of home languages

The province improved the Arts subjects in 2017 Dance was performed at 100% in all the three districts The performance of Design was between 87% and 100% in the four districts The performance of Dramatic Arts was between 95.14% and 100% in the eleven districts The performance of Music was between 92.31% and 100% in the nine districts The performance of Visual Arts was between 97.61% and 100% in the twelve districts

TECHNOLOGY SUBJETS

Most of the districts excelled in Technology subjects The performance of Civil Technology was between 84.0% and 100% in the twelve districts The performance of Computer Applications Technology was between 59.22% and 98.16% in the twelve districts The performance of Electrical Technology was between 85.0% and 100% in the eleven districts The performance of Information Technology was between 58.33% and 100% in the elven districts The performance of Mechanical Technology was between 84.35% and 100% in the eleven districts The performance of Engineering Graphics and Design was between 89.15% and 100% in the twelve districts

ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT
