Introducing your Course/Study Programme at WKC Workshop 3

Your Course/Study Programme At the end of this session, you should be able to: Describe the structure and contents of the course/study programme. Accept and agree to meet course expectations. Know the three College procedures which are designed to support learning.

Welcome to the (Course/Study Programme Title) Provide a comprehensive outline of the course/study programme: Overview of course/study programme (description) Progression Routes (What next) Structure of the course/study programme (Units or Modules) Include a simple activity to show how learning and assessment are conducted

Case Study – what advice would you give the student below? "After studying for a qualification at Westminster Kingsway College, I decided to look for a job; I wanted to start earning real money. I didn’t get the first job I applied for because they wanted someone with GCSE maths and English. I don’t have either of them. I might have gotten the job if I had level 2 in Functional Skills but I don’t have them either. The second job I went for gave me an interview but that didn’t go so well either. It was the first interview I had ever had so I didn’t know how to answer the questions. When I went for an interview for the third job, they asked why I only achieved a pass grade for my college course. I couldn’t tell them it was because my attendance at college was really poor. My timekeeping was really bad as well. I’m thinking of going back to college to do another qualification. I’ll have to do it soon because when I turn 19, I’ll have to start paying for my education.

Course Expectations Case study activity to show the importance of: English and maths Work experience/employability Focusing on progression targets The importance of high attendance and punctuality The best ways of achieving continuous high performance and excellent conduct

Complaints and appeals procedures Discuss the following in small groups: You want to complain about something at the college, what do you think you should do? You don’t agree with the grade for your last assignment or homework, what do you think you should do?
