The psychological influence of life stage Dying Young

If parents demand too much to soon, refuse to let children perform tasks they are capable of, or ridicule their attempts, the child may instead develop shame and doubt and doubt their ability to handle problems.

The main question at this stage is who am I and where am I going? Erikson “identity crisis”. Erikson felt the crisis usually doesn’t end until the ages of 25 – 30. Young adults take this opportunity to experiment with different roles to see who they want to be in the world. What is important in the struggle for identity is that individuals use school college or professional identities to begin to resolve this crisis. This is a time of breaking away from family. Whilst young people struggle with their identities, they still want to blend in with their friends. Society usually makes allowances to for young adults to find themselves. What is important from a psychological perspective is that the right conditions which are essentially enough space and time when a person can freely experiment and explore, what may emerge is a firm sense of identity, as awareness of who he or she is.
