GeneralAire® UV Air Purification

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification Indoor Air in your home can be 2-5 times more polluted than the air we breathe outdoors and in some cases up to 100 times more polluted.

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification Harness the air purifying power of the Sun for your Home! ….and Let the Sunshine In!

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification

Atom GeneralAire® UV Air Purification An ION is an atom or group of atoms that carries a positive or negative charge as a result of having lost or gained one or more electrons.

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification Ultraviolet air purifiers act like nature and lets the sun into your HVAC distribution system to improve the quality of indoor air.

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification History 1860-1904 Niels Ryberg Finsen is first to employ Ultraviolet rays in treating disease. 1903 Niels Finsen was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine for use of Ultraviolet rays in fighting tuberculosis.

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification History Cont. 1908 Ultraviolet C (UVC) is used to disinfect the municipal water supply in Marseille, France. 1930’s Dr. Harvey C. Rentschler of Westinghouse Lamp Research Laboratories develops the first commercial UVC germicidal lamps. They are used primarily in hospitals and special commercial applications.

History Cont. After World War II UVC is used for sterilizing air in hospitals, kitchens, meat storage and processing plants, bakeries, breweries, dairies, beverage production, pharmaceutical plants and animal labs. 1950’s UVC is incorporated in air handling equipment. It become the major component in the control and eradication of tuberculosis (TB).

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification History Cont. 1970’s Mechanical ventilation and air conditioning becomes more popular and require Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) to be used to control mold and other microbial contaminants circulated throughout buildings. Today Technological Advancements have allowed manufactures to offer high output UVC germicidal models to control microbial contamination improving indoor air quality and HVAC efficiencies.

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification Ultraviolet wavelength potency is measure at one meter from the lamp. An accepted standard measurement by lamp manufacturers. Calculate ultraviolet radiation potency at measured distances by multiplying the potency of the lamp (µW/cm2 @ 1 meter) by the potency factor. Example: Multiply the GUV100A83 potency output of (180 µW/cm2 @ 1 meter) by the distance of 2 inches (69 Potency Factor) = 12, 240 µW/cm2.

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification Time Exposure of Microorganism HVAC Duct Velocity averages 400 to 500 FPM A Pathogenic contaminant will travel 6 to 8 feet in one second Time exposure for organisms can be limited based on duct velocities Air in an average home will pass through the HVAC system up to 75 times per day during normal operation and as much as 150 times per day in continuous fan mode.

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology Institute (ART) UV irradiation reflective materials such as polished aluminum with high UVC reflection properties can be used to multiply the UV efficiency of the germicidal lamps. Polished aluminum will increase UV efficiency as much as 40 – 60%. Solarization: The decrease in UV lamp output over its rated lifespan is typically 9,000 to 18,000 hours. Reduction of 75-80% rated lamp output over effective lamp lifespan is realized.

GeneralAire® UV Air Purification Air Treatment by reducing levels of air borne bacteria, fungus, mold and other infestations. Deconstruction of gaseous contaminants and toxic organic molecules to carbon and water. Neutralizing odors from tobacco, garbage, animals, pet dander, and other volatile organic compounds (VOC).
