What is a Map? Maps and globes are important tools which are used to show information about the earth. Persons who make maps are call cartographers. The main objective of a map is to show the different landmasses, bodies of water and other helpful information. Nevertheless, maps ,and globes are totally different in shape. Maps are flat 2 dimensional replicas of the earth ,while globes are 3 dimensional, they are round models of the earth.

Directions Directions are meant to guide us. On mostly all maps there are points facing: North, south, east, and west. Directions are located using an apparatus called a compass. A compass shows you where you are going. A compass works with the earth’s magnetic field to point in the direction of north A compass on a map shows sixteen points in total. Cardinal points contain : North, South, East, and West. Intermediate points contain: Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, Northwest. Sixteen -point compass contains: North North east, East North east, East South east, South South east, South South west, West South west, West North west, North North east.

Bearings Each point on a compass has a bearing. Bearings are used to provide an exact location a place. They are measured in degrees
