Subject Matter: Measuring Segments Objective: TSWBAT find and compare lengths of segments. Standards: G-1.10 Demonstrate an understanding of geometric relationships (including constructions through investigations by using a variety of tools such as straightedge, compass, Patty Paper, dynamic geometry software, and handheld computing devices). G-1.2 Communicate knowledge of geometric relationships by using mathematical terminology appropriately G-2.4 Use direct measurement to determine the length of a segment, degree of an angle, and distance from a point to a line.

Problem 1 Measuring Segment Lengths

Problem 2 Using the Segment Additions Postulate If three points A, B, and C are collinear and B is between A and C, then AB + BC = AC.

Problem 3 Using the Midpoint

Close the instruction by asking: Q: A segment has endpoints at coordinate A and coordinate B on a number line. How can you determine the length of the segment connecting point A with the midpoint of segment AB? [Answers may vary. Sample: Determine the length of the segment, and then divide that length by 2.] Classwork: Do Practice: Measuring Segments From G Homework: Do # 8 – 28, even, page 24 (textbook)
