Sun Printed bag or pillow Fall 2018

OBJECTIVE Students will each receive a cut of white 100% Cotton fabric measured 18”x40”, which they will dye and design a sun printed surface from using found objects/plants. They will then cut and sew their projects by following a step-by-step pattern.

STEP 1: MEASURE & CUT FABRIC SET OF 2 PILLOWS MEASUREMENTS: Four 10”x18” Pieces. TOTE BAG MEASUREMENTS: Two 12”x18” Pieces. Two 4”x18” Pieces. *OPTIONAL Extra 10”x18” piece for pockets* DRAWSTRING BAG MEASUREMENTS: Two 18”x20” Pieces.

STEP 2: Sun Printing Wet fabric and squeeze out all excess water. Place Fabric FLAT in plastic tray. Paint fabric dye on entire piece of fabric, only using 1 or 2 colors at a time. Immediately place objects/stencils on fabric, making sure to press down to create as much contact as possible. Place in Sun until completely dry.

STEP 3: SEWING Each student will create a sewing practice small drawstring bag using a fat quarter and some ribbon. After this, students will follow step-by-step directions on how to construct their chosen project.
