INEE Minimum Standards Why use a framework for needs assessment? To ensure that the assessment will get the right information. To form the basis of your analysis To link the analysis to recommendations for programming. Session 2.3

Let’s open the handbook Session 2.3

Exercise – Framing a Needs Assessment using the INEE Minimum Standards You have been asked to conduct a Needs Assessment for a community of around 2,000 IDPs. They are recently arrived. 50% of the IDPs are children, a significant proportion of the male population has stayed behind. The IDPs have fled recent heavy fighting, some are expected to have received injuries, or to be suffering from illness and malnourishment. Session 2.3

Group Work BRAINSTORM – 5 Minutes How will you ensure the following standards are met by the needs assessment (what questions do you need to ask, who do you need to ask, what other information sources should you consult etc.): Group 1: Community Participation and Coordination Group 2: Access and Learning Environment Group 3: Teaching and Learning Group 4: Education Policy & Protection Group 5: Ensure the assessment covers all relevant age groups and is sensitive to Gender Group 6: Ensure the assessment covers WASH, Nutrition and Food Security Session 2.3
