God Tests Abraham Genesis 22:1-19
What is Faith? Faith is belief in things not seen (Heb. 11:1). “Unshakable belief in undeniable truth.” Faith is also trust (Heb. 11:6). Abraham’s faith was such that he was called “the friend of God” (James 2:23).
An Unlimited Faith Genesis 12:1-4 Genesis 15:3-6 Genesis 18:9-14 “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Gen. 18:14)
An Unshakable Faith
An Unshakable Faith Fail (Luke 22:23) Made void (Rom. 4:14) Weak (Rom. 4:19) Vain (1 Cor. 15:14) Insincere (1 Tim. 1:5) Shipwreck (1 Tim. 1:19) Overthrown (2 Tim. 2:18) Dead (James 2:26)
An Unshakable Faith Romans 4:16-24 “contrary to hope, in hope believed” (v. 18) “and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform” (v. 21)
A Shared Faith Genesis 17:9-11, 23-27 Genesis 22:7 Genesis 18:17-19
An Obedient Faith James 2:14-24 Hebrews 11:17-19
A Rewarded Faith He was “justified” (James 2:21) He was “honored” (Gen. 22:15-18)
Our Faith Rewarded We aren’t promised a son, but that we can be “children of God” (Rom. 8:16-17). We aren’t promised a nation, but that we can be a part of a “holy nation” (1 Pet. 2:9). If we have faith like Abraham, we will receive “the end of your faith – the salvation of your souls” (1 Pet. 1:9).
