Responsibility and Organization

RESPONSIBILITY AND ORGANIZATION When you open your book bag, do you have to rummage around for several minutes looking for your book or assignment? Do you find you are often late to school or appointments or do you miss them all together? Do you have to search through all of your dresser drawers looking for one missing sock to match the one you need to wear?

RESPONSIBILITY AND ORGANIZATION If you answered “Yes” to these questions, you may need help getting organized.

RESPONSIBILITY AND ORGANIZATION Employers and teachers feel two good work habits are: Effective time management Organizational skills Good time management techniques allow you to simultaneously manage life at home, at school, and on the job

TIME MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES Believe Believe you are in control Tell yourself that life at home, school and on the job is manageable Learn to say “No” Know your limitation If have a big test on Tuesday, don’t tell friends you can go to dinner and a movie on Monday night.

TIME MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES Ask for Help Don’t fear being seen as disturbing or not smart Go to the expert for assistance Prioritize Organize your appointments/tasks from most important to least important Ask yourself How critical is each activity or expectation? How long will it take from start to finish to complete each activity? What do you need to complete each activity?

TIME MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES Set timetables Measure how you are doing Use a pocket, wall, or desk calendar Mark activity due dates Fill in dates with “mini steps” that it will take to complete the big assignment

TIME MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES Spend Time Wisely Find time within your day to get things done Allow for more time at home with family and friends Enjoy Free Time Maintaining good physical and mental health is essential to being successful at school and on the job Keep yourself organized and complete tasks in a timely manner to allow more time for you!

Tips for Gaining Control Assess your schedules weekly and then daily Identify the most important tasks to be completed Review appointment schedules Reserve at least two hours daily to complete school assignments Consider using an organized filing system Arrive early Be flexible enough to work during lunch and dinner Schedule times for missed or incomplete assignments Do what you have to do to be successful!
