What MTSS is NOT… It is not special education, but EDUCATION It is not a prepackaged program It is not a quick fix – this will take time and committed leadership in each school to implement with fidelity May get worse before it gets better!

Why should we use MTSS Behavior? It improves academic achievement for all students

MTSS Process at a Glance Step 1: Make a Modification & Differentiate Step 2: Contact Parents Begin an Intervention Document, Document, Document Review Data Step 3: Contact Counselor and Principal Make a “Success Plan” (Behavior Plan)

School Matrix

Need to come make our own MATRIX 15 minutes to pitch ideas for our MATRIX What are 3-5 main qualities you want the students to display Respect? Responsible? Safe and Orderly? Needs to be a catchy phrase Is that being RED Show me a RED line Show me how to be RED Then what does it look like to be ______ in the hall, bathroom, classroom, etc. 2-3 main points

How Are We Going to Change Unwanted Behavior? TICKETS!!! Star Store BIST

What Do I Give Tickets For? Good deeds that go beyond what you normally would do for people Improved behavior Improved grades Extraordinary kindness to other students Showing leadership Volunteer tutoring Showing school spirit Good behavior on field trips Meeting class commitment Anything that your teacher feels deserves a ticket

NEVER TAKE TICKETS AWAY!! If a student earns a ticket, they KEEP the ticket – NEVER take tickets away!! Do NOT bribe student with TICKETS!! Must be something you CATCH them doing

Examples: A student who has forgotten library book 2 days in a row, brings it next day = ticket or no ticket? Picks up someone’s books if they drop them = ticket or no ticket? Student who is quiet and safe in the hall = ticket or no ticket? You tell the student you will give them a ticket if they go to the office for you, and they do. = ticket or no ticket? Has pencil on desk and waiting quietly = ticket or no ticket? Never has a pencil, brings a pencil = ticket or no ticket?

No Ticket If you do this, I will give you a ticket----NO!!!!
