Office 365 Overview
What is Office 365? The familiar Office for PCs, Macs or tablets Business-class email and calendaring using Exchange Online Online conferencing using Lync Online Secure file sharing using OneDrive for Business Web hosting for your public website All on security, compliance and privacy you can trust
The familiar Office for PCs, Macs or tablets Microsoft Lync The familiar Office for PCs, Macs or tablets 12/1/2018 Install Office on up to 5 devices per user Across your PC, Mac, tablet, and smartphone Before the click: Office 365 includes the latest version of all the familiar Office applications – including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook – for you to use on your PCs and Macs – to enable you to access research, email, courthouse calendars, and subject experts with Office apps After the Click: In addition, it also provides access to certain Office applications that are optimized for tablets and smartphones. For example, you can run all the full-featured Office apps on a Windows tablet. And because it’s touch, you can switch some of the apps (e.g. Outlook) to touch-mode and the interface changes slightly to optimize for touching with your fingers rather than a mouse pointer (larger icons, quick access bar on the side for one-touch actions like delete, reply, move, etc). This makes it easier for users to interact, compose, and manage their email on the go. Windows Phone has always supported Office Mobile, which allows you to open or edit files in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote, and join meetings (with just one click) using Lync Mobile. As of June 2013, Office Mobile is also available for iPhone in the Apple App Store at no additional charge for Office 365 subscribers. When we launched Office 365, we committed to delivering regular updates and new capabilities to Office 365 subscribers. Lync Mobile and OneNote Mobile have been available for iPhone for a while now so we are just expanding the investment in this area. Similar to Office Mobile on Windows Phone, Office Mobile for iPhone offers great Office content viewing and on-the-go content editing capabilities for Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Android operating system and iPad continue to have Lync Mobile and OneNote Mobile apps. And of course, with these devices, you can always log in to your Office 365 account from any browser and use Office Web Apps in the browser. You can check emails and your calendar, see all your contacts with their presence so you can IM them, one-click to join online meetings, and see/edit the latest and most recent documents in the browser. For each Office 365 licensed user, you can install Office apps (full-featured, stay on the machine) on up to 5 PCs, Macs, or mobile devices. Highly-secured email using SSL Encryption (Enterprise E3 only) Many lawyers need to access information when on the road or at a customer site. Because Office 365 uses SSL (secure socket layer) encryption – basically it’s “s” in websites with https such as when you log into your bank account – your lawyers can securely transmit data to and from any location. This highly encrypted data stream lets them read information when they need to, even at a moment’s notice. They can also digitally sign and encrypt the contents of email messages to protect them from unauthorized access. Litigation hold With Exchange Online, you can put a hold on email, preventing a person from losing vital information accidentally. For the end user, if a person accidentally deletes an email message, though it may seem that the email has disappeared, the administrator has retained it in a hidden directory in the user’s Inbox. If the person tries to change or forward the email, the administrator can see what has been changed or forwarded. Litigation hold also protects against illegal actions. Every email that goes in or out is sent to an external email address so that the administrator can see everything related to that mailbox. The end user may be unaware of this process, although some countries and regions have policies in place obligating employers to reveal this information. If you opt to employ this functionality for everyone through the interface, you can use PowerShell. This feature enables scripting of routine tasks. Synchronized calendars Lawyers hate wasting time, but courtrooms often prove unpredictable in terms of schedules and times. For example, a hearing may be delayed or cancelled, and if you are not in touch with a courtroom schedule, you have no way of knowing. With Officer 365, you can access court agendas through Exchange Online and your mobile devices. If there’s a delay, you receive a notification. You can also keep your phone connected to your Outlook calendar so that you can keep track of your next appointment, set up a meeting (your calendar on your device will sync back to Outlook when you get back to the office), and send one-click “I’ll be late” messages when you get stuck in traffic. You can see the free/busy status of your colleagues’ calendars (through Outlook) around the world. You can also set up shared calendars for your team/projects and see it side by side with your personal calendar.
