How organ-systems communicate Chapter 29

What happens when you feel very hot?

You weren’t sweating before you got very hot. Why not?

Your body only sweats in response to something Your body only sweats in response to something. In this case, it was the heat.

The endocrine system is a collection of organs that control growth, development, and response to environment.

The nervous system is a network of cells, tissues, and organs that control thoughts, movements, and simple life processes.

Central Nervous System (CNS): includes the brain and spinal cord Central Nervous System (CNS): includes the brain and spinal cord. It interprets information received from other parts of the body.

Peripheral Nervous System (PNS): Network of nerves that transmit messages to and from the CNS.

Remember that communication is absolutely necessary for maintaining homeostasis – a state of constant internal stability within the body.

Homeostasis examples: Shivering to warm up when you’re cold. Sweating to cool down when you’re hot. _______________ when you need more water. _______________ when you have too much water.
