One thing we always need to have: a fresh encounter with Jesus Christ (Mark 3:7-22...32-35) One thing we always need to have: a fresh encounter with Jesus Christ - and we always can (Word and Spirit), so long as we allow the challenges He brings. (1) THE SAVING POWER OF JESUS "...a great multitude..." (Mark 3:7) Jesus works - if we don't try to keep Him within our limits or under our control, (like the Pharisees, and like even His own brothers and mother)
(2) THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS (Mark 3:7-22...32-35) (2) THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS Up on the mountain, calling "those he wants", appointing the 12 (Mark 3:13-19) - redefining God's people, on His own authority - proving His authority by His saving power Jesus saves because Jesus is Lord. Is He my Lord?
(3) THE INCLUSIVENESS OF JESUS ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS (Mark 3:7-22...32-35) (3) THE INCLUSIVENESS OF JESUS Even tax collectors (Matthew) and Zealots (Simon) "...whoever does the will of God..." (Mark 3:34) Even Mary Magdalene, or the Samaritan woman Jesus wants all who want Him (John 6:37)! They are His family: "my brother, my sister, my mother“ (Mark 3:35). Will I do the will of God?
Our hearts and lives, not just our lips, must honour Jesus. ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS (Mark 3:7-22...32-35) (4) THE HOLINESS OF JESUS Mark 3:12: "He sternly ordered them..." He rejects testimony from unclean sources "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord'..." (Matthew 7:21) Our hearts and lives, not just our lips, must honour Jesus.
