is That unfair?

John 21:15-16 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” sheep.

John 21:17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.

John 21:18-19 I tell you the truth, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

John 21:20-23 Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”) When Peter saw him, he asked, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” Because of this, the rumor spread among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say that he would not die; he only said, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you?”

God deals with each of our lives differently for at least 3 reasons.

I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life.

I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life. A. The degree of your service measures the extent of your love!

I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life. When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” - v15 1. Love (ἀγαπάω) = focus on the need. Know (οἶδα) = by obser- vation. Love (φιλέω) = focus on the person.

When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” - v15 2. Feed (βόσκομαι) = hand feed. Lambs (ἀρνίον) = individual lambs.

I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life. Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” - v16 3. Love (ἀγαπάω) = focus on the need. Know (οἶδα) = by obser- vation. Love (φιλέω) = focus on the person.

Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you truly love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” - v16 4. Take care (ποιμαίνω) = be a shepherd. Sheep (πρόβατον) = this is plural, so - the flock of sheep.

The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. - v17 5. Love (φιλέω) = focus on the person. Know (γινώσκω) = by personal experience. Love (φιλέω) = focus on the person.

I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life. B. Treating us differently doesn’t mean God is unfair.

Then he said to him, “Follow me!” - v18-19 1. Peter: his death would be violent.

Dress (ζωννύω) = to tie a belt around you. I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life. I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life. 3. Don’t ever pass judgment on how God treats others as the standard for how He should treat you!

I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life. II I. To Serve God as First Priority of Your Life. II. To Present Lord Jesus as God in the Flesh.

II. To Present Lord Jesus as God in the Flesh. A. The man who was born blind. John 9:1-5 - As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

II. To Present Lord Jesus as God in the Flesh. B. Sickness does not appear to be the natural result of sin.

II. To Present Lord Jesus as God in the Flesh. C. He was blind all those years in order to be the recipient of the Lord’s healing!

II. To Present Lord Jesus as God in the Flesh. C. He was blind all those years in order to be the recipient of the Lord’s healing! Nobody has ever heard of opening the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” - v32-33

III. To Showcase Your Faith to the Heavenly Hosts. B. Job’s Story.

III. To Showcase Your Faith to the Heavenly Hosts. B. Job’s Story. In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. - 1:1. Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” - 1:8.

III. To Showcase Your Faith to the Heavenly Hosts. B. Job’s Story. But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face. The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” - 1:11-12.

The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.” - 2:6.

III. To Showcase Your Faith to the Heavenly Hosts. B. Job’s Story. But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face. - 1:11. The LORD said to Satan, “Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life.” - 2:6. The Final Verdict: God has a right to allow anything He wants to happen to us without question!
