PBIS Coastal Middle School S Show respect O Open Minded A Accept responsibility R Reflect

OUR PBIS CREED: As a Coastal Seahawk, I will show respect to everyone. I will be open- minded. I will accept responsibility for my actions, and I will reflect on my choices.”

What is PBIS? WE CALL IT SOAR! PBIS is: - a positive behavior management process to create safer and more effective schools - a system of clear schoolwide expectations with consequences and incentives - intervention when you need help - recognition and celebration for your successes

What does PBIS do for you? Students are recognized and acknowledged for positive behaviors: Outside lunch, free seating in cafeteria, dress down, snacks at lunch, homework pass and more! Students receive interventions to help them refocus their unsuccessful behaviors. teacher-student conference, parent contact, reflections, learning lunches, parent conference, administrative referral.

How Does PBIS Work? All students follow the same set of rules and expectations throughout all areas in the building. These rules and expectations are displayed as a matrix, which is posted in every area of the school. When students follow the rules and expectations, they are acknowledged. When students do not follow the rules, there are planned guidelines to help them get back on track.

What is a “seahawk shell”? A shell is an acknowledgement from someone that you are doing what is expected or that you have gone beyond expectations. They will be calculated in the PBIS app. Teachers, parents and students can access their shell “bank” You may also collect them in your agenda from substitutes, bus drivers and visitors. You will need to turn your agenda in to your HR teacher to be entered in the system within 3 days of receiving the shells. Redeem your shells on Redeem Days

How can you earn seashells? When consistent, students will be recognized for appropriate behaviors that represent the examples on our matrix.

Who awards students with shells? All staff including: teachers substitute teachers counselors coaches main office/media center staff bus drivers cafeteria staff custodians

When and where will students redeem their shells? * Students will redeem shells with their homeroom teacher on designated dates; once per 9 weeks * The activity or privilege redeemed will occur on that day only * Using PBIS Rewards, teachers and students will know how many shells they have before and after each redemption day; shells can only be used ONCE * A list of activities and privileges, along with their shell value, has been created and will be posted and available for students * Students may redeem for more then one activity/privilege * Shells do not expire; all students will participate in Redeem Days- this cannot be taken * Redeem Days for School Year 2017-2018 are: Oct. 6th; Dec. 1st, March 23rd, May 16th
