Presentation transcript:

The aim of this lesson is to enable the children to discuss sources of light from past to present day. They examine changes in sources of domestic lighting from the past to the present.

Children learn about sources of light that have been used throughout the ages. Questions to promote discussion Describe what you see in the picture. Where is Guzzler? Is this long ago? How do you know? Where does Guzzler live? Why is he holding the fire torch? What is the source of light in this picture? What kind of energy does it use? Do we use that as a source of light today? Why did Guzzler use this source of light? Why did he not use electricity?

Questions to promote discussion What is the source of light in this picture? What kind of energy does it use? In what way does this image remind you of Guzzler in the cave? Do we use this as a source of light today? Why did Guzzler use this source of light? Why did he not use electricity? Was this a strong source of light? How has the source of light changed from the last picture of Guzzler in the cave? Is it more safe? Why do you think so? Is this more recent than the last picture? How do you know?

Questions to promote discussion Describe what you see in the picture. Why is Guzzler wearing these clothes? Is this before or after Guzzler the caveman? How do you know? What is the source of light in this picture? What kind of energy does it use? Do we use this as a source of light today? How does Guzzler turn on the light? Was this a strong source of light? How has the source of light changed from the last 2 pictures of Guzzler? Is this light bulb an energy efficient bulb?

Questions to promote discussion What is the source of light in this picture? What kind of energy does it use? Do we use that as a source of light today? Why does Guzzler not use a fire torch as a source of light? Why does Guzzler not use a candle as a source of light? Was this a strong source of light? How has the source of light changed from the last 3 pictures of Guzzler? Of the last two (more modern images) which light bulb do you think is most energy efficient? Why do we need energy efficient light bulbs?

Four scenarios - sort from the earliest to the most recent 1 is earliest 4 is most recent Questions: Which came first? How do you know? What other picture was also very long ago? Which one was in your grandparents' time? How can you tell? Which is the most recent? What is the big energy saving clue in the most recent?
