Simon Guillebaud ‘Choose Life 365’) October 1st

Simon Guillebaud ‘Choose Life 365’) October 1st Telemachus was a 4th century monk who felt God calling him to Rom. In obedience, he went there and arrived to find crowds surging through the streets and into the Colosseum. When the gladiators came in a dn saluted the Emperor, it suddenly dawned on him that they were going to kill each other for sport. He left his seat, jumped over the rail and ran towards the warriors shouting ‘In the name of Christ, stop!’. The crowd laughed until they realised that it wasn’t part of the show. The crowd grew hostile and shouted at the gladiators to finish him off. A gladiator ran him through with his sword. His last feeble words were ‘In the name of Christ, stop!’ Something strange happened. A hush came over the crowd. One man towards the back stood up and left, then slowly everyone else did too. This was AD391, and that proved to be the last gladiatorial fight to the death in the Colosseum. Telemachus changed the course of history.

PRAYER Prayer groups Most crucial element Been hard to sustain groups over the years Triplets have become 7 Follow the movements of the Spirit

PEOPLE Historical finances Importance of recognising resources (human capital) Money follows Encourage vision and passion Developing skills – step-by-step Hospitality and care “People with more experience hold back” A Vicar who said ‘Yes’ to people’s visions

PERSEVERANCE Many dead ends – not everything works Numbers ebb Encouraging more modern and contemporary worship Respecting difference Alpha effective - stop start Do what we can do – God will honour it. Exciting initiatives ending through lack of support

The Dead Sea – Nothing lives – salt and drying up - water flows in, but not out. Its stagnant. The Red Sea – Full of life, vibrancy, richness - water flows in, and flows out A church to live must allow the love of God to minister to it, and be willing to let it flow out to the community
