Campaigns, propaganda techniques and ads Chapter 10.2 Getting Elected Campaigns, propaganda techniques and ads Chapter 10.2

Bell Ringer 10 Prompt Suffrage was originally given to a very small group in our country. Identify that specific group. Then, using at least 3 specific examples (amendment or law), explain how suffrage and voting practices have changed throughout our history. Be specific in your examples and order them chronologically. Peer grade using the following criteria: Group identified (1), Correct examples (3), chronological order (1) for a grade out of 5.

For p. 10: Read pp. 306-07 Why is running for office so expensive? Name at least 5 expenses. Looking at your list, can anyone REALLY be President? Explain your opinion. Redefine canvassing and stumping. Define Propaganda. Why do you think so many election ads are negative?

Propaganda in Political Ads For p. 11, define each of the propaganda techniques in your own words using p. 336. Give an example of each type. Leave room for my examples, too!

Propaganda Techniques

For each commercial, determine which propaganda technique is being used. Then debate its effectiveness. http://www.livingroomcandidate.org/commercials/1952 1952: Ike for President (Eisenhower) 1964: Peace Little Girl (Daisy) (Johnson) 1984: Prouder, Stronger, Better (Reagan) 1996: Next Century (Clinton) 2000: Hopeful (Bush) 2004: Windsurfing (Bush) 2008: Yes We Can-Web (Obama) After watching the examples, decide which technique you feel is most effective. Least effective. Explain.
