New Member Expectations

New Member Expectations What we provide to new members What the FRU provides new members What new member expects

New Member Expectations What Moose International Provides: If e-mail address is provided: Welcome to the fraternity e-mail (sent within 24 hours of when the new member is reported as enrolled) Birthday greeting from Director General (e-mail)   Membership Packet, with membership card (mailed in 2-3 days after reported as enrolled)

New Member Expectations What Moose International Provides: Moose Magazine (6 issues per year) 4 month – Mooseheart postcard   8 month – Moosehaven postcard 10 month – Dues notice

New Member Expectations What Moose International Provides: 1st Year Members Dues Renewals Bad Address? It’s return address is Lodge Address

New Member expectations What our Fraternal Units could/should provide: Each lodge should have a plan in place for their new members. While the sponsor should guide their new members, don’t rely on them giving all of the details of the Lodge.

New Member expectations What our Fraternal Units could/should provide: Lodges should supplement the materials that Moose International provides to the new member. Every new member should get a packet of materials from their Lodge, which should include what the Lodge offers.

New member expectations Meeting nights/hours Dress code and rules of bar (no hats, etc.) Guest rules   Volunteer Opportunities Brag a little by providing a listing of Community Service events that the Lodge has participated in over the last year, with a notation that volunteers are welcome and instructions on how to sign up to help.

New member expectations   One month after joining, a call to the new member should be placed by the Membership Committee asking if they’ve received their card, if they’ve had the opportunity to attend the Lodge, or if they have any questions.

New Member Expectations What does a new member expect when joining?   Lodge to be clean Have the officers walk around the outside of the building and also walk into the lodge without blinders on – it’s amazing what you see when you truly look Bathrooms and Kitchens clean Not to worry about theft

New Member Expectations What does a new member expect when joining?   Lodge to be safe When walking outside have them look for potential dark ‘unsafe’ areas and offer suggestions of additional lighting, or possibly escort people to their cars. Lodges to have great communications Monthly Communication by mail/e-mail Weekly communications by e-mail/text

New Member Expectations What does a new member expect when joining? Lodge to be welcoming/friendly Make sure they have friendly greeters/bartenders Lodge to have variety of events Expect to have a great time Lodges to have wide age-group of people

New Member Expectations Idea: New Member – First, Second and Third Visit Card. They turn each card in to the doorman/bartender and receive a complimentary beverage, free appetizer or a free game of pool, etc – whatever the Lodge wants/can afford to do.

New member production/campaign Programs that are cost effective and fun! Use e-mail whenever possible Use Association Newsletters

New member production/campaign Programs that are cost effective and fun! Idea for lodge/district/association: For every member you sponsor you get a chance to spin the wheel at the next Association Meeting. On the wheel can be, sorry you are not a winner, but thanks for sponsoring, sorry not a winner, but spin again for another chance!, dinner with the Association President at the 5 Club banquet; ‘cheap items’, such as candy bar with a personalized covering, pens, notepads with Association logo, Association Hat, Association T-shirts, golf balls, watches, etc.

Comments “We never felt like we were a part of the lodge. No one ever took the time to really introduce us to the lodge and all the great charitable things going on. Its like they signed us up just to try to win some membership drive. Sadly, after going a few times and receiving the same treatment each time, we left and did not return.”

Comments “Actually, the people working there were very unfriendly. The people that were in the club when I would go in were very vulgar with foul language. If you were new, you were pretty much ignored. Just not a place that I would spend any time in.”

Comments “The Moose is a "social club' run by old members who do not appreciate any changes or any "new" members who may be a "threat" to the way they run things.” “Very old crowd not trending to new, younger members.”

Every lodge needs new members
