Step 1: Research Your Options Explore Naviance (https://student.naviance.com/elkhorn) College Reps College Search Scholarship Search Participate in campus visits. Try to visit when school is in session. Seniors are allowed 2 college visit days that do not count against attendance. Call Mrs. Carlson to notify her of college visit absence. Step 1: Research Your Options Admissions officers consider your academic and personal qualifications Academic Transcript Trends in Grades/ Courses Current Schedule Personal School Involvement Leadership Community Service

Step 2: Register for Tests and Request Your Scores ACT Registration Deadlines September 28th for the October 27th test November 2nd for the December 8th test Notes about test security. These include: Uploading a photo when registering, which will be matched to student on test day Student must bring photo ID and admission ticket to test center. Student must provide their high school name at registration, and the HS will automatically receive the score report. Send Scores to the Colleges of Your Choice Your student is responsible for selecting the colleges that receive scores (and ordering additional score reports if necessary) Test Preparation A list of test preparation companies is available on the ESHS Counseling Center website or stop in the ESHS Counseling Center. Don’t forget about ACT Online Prep. (https://onlineprep.act.org/login)

Step 3: Complete Your Applications Follow directions carefully. Make note of all deadlines. Most applications are online. Proofread the online application. It is important that students self-report information accurately. For each college, keep track of deadlines, passwords, admission letters, and other correspondence. Create a back-up plan. It is common to apply to 3 or more colleges.

Step 4: Request a Transcript Let your counselor know after each application is submitted. Transcripts contain your student’s: GPA class rank course history a list of classes in progress

Step 5: Ask for letters of recommendation (as needed) Help your student identify educators who will give him/her a positive recommendation Provide at least two weeks notice Make sure your student gives the person writing the letter a resume or a list of accomplishments Encourage your student to write a thank you note when the letter is complete Remember, your student is responsible for following up on completion of letters!!!

College Athletics NCAA Division I or II need to register with the NCAA eligibility center: www.eligibilitycenter.org NAIA students need to register with the eligibility center: www.PlayNAIA.org ACT or SAT scores must come directly for the testing agency Students should see their counselor if planning to play college athletics Make sure students register as a student at ESHS in Omaha, NE
