KOTTER’S CHANGE THEORY A Quick Review of Step 1 KOTTER’S CHANGE THEORY Step 1: Create a Sense of Urgency: In their rush to make a plan and take action, most companies ignore this step. Leaders may underestimate how hard it is to drive people out of their comfort zones, or overestimate how successfully they have already done so, or simply lack the patience necessary to develop appropriate urgency. Leaders who understand the importance of a sense of urgency are good at taking the pulse of their company and determining whether the state of the organization is.

Your Task Based on the first step of Kotter’s 8-Step Process to Leading Change (Establish a Sense of Urgency) Create a 30 second video that highlights a topic of your choice.

Create a Public Service Announcement Brainstorm: Create a sense of urgency that is based on a topic of your choice. Search the internet for pictures that highlight the topic you chose. Create a video using a software of your choice. Videos need to be 30 seconds or less. Upload your video to the EDD Facebook page as soon as possible. View all videos and give feedback. Prizes awarded on Monday morning to teams with most “Likes” and comments. Likes =1 point Comments =2 Points *** Your group may want to divide up some tasks to save time.*** **For more details and directions on using Animoto, see handout.**
