Service Learning at Poverty Reduction Initiative: Progress Village By Angie Robl RN
Poverty Reduction Initiative “Poverty Reduction Initiative consists of representatives from local businesses, public and government agencies, and concerned citizens. Working subcommittees focus on five strategic directions: Navigators, Mentoring, Education, Advocacy, and Communications,” (PRI, 2014).
Progress Village VISION: “A virtual village of neighbors helping neighbors; creating pathways to opportunities and solutions”
Volunteer Role Participation in project for community based health promotion Data collection Research of Evidence Based Practices
Learning Experiences Building a survey Data collection Interacting with target population Positive Interactions Negative Interactions
Recommendations I would highly recommend working with the Poverty Reduction Initiative and Progress Village for a Service Learning experience. Not only was I able to do the required hours of community service I was able to contribute in a way that used my skill and knowledge while challenging me to face a new environment.
