The Excretory System or The Urinary System

Introduction The urinary system, with other organs, regulates the amount and composition of interstitial fluid. (Homeostasis) The kidneys are the major excretory organs of the body. They remove toxic waste and play a role in regulating blood ions, pH, and volume. The system consists of 2 kidneys, 2 ureters, a single bladder, and a urethra.

Investigation: Structure and Function Relationships in Urinary System Anatomy-Part 1. *What to do: Identify the organs of the urinary system in the human and the fetal pig. Sketch the systems of each in anatomic position. What is the structural layout of the overall system in the human? The pig? What do these observations tell you about structure and function? What does the texture of the kidney remind you of? Predict why you think these similarities exists.
