Let’s take the an opportunity to reflect on what you Setting Goals Happy New Year! Let’s take the an opportunity to reflect on what you want 2015 to do for you!

New Year’s Assignment Respond to the following quote in a multi-paragraph response introduction with thesis statement body paragraphs with topic sentences Conclusion

New Year’s Resolutions PREWRITING/PLANNING What is a resolution? A resolution is a promise that you make to yourself! Nobody's perfect! The beginning of a new year seems like a good time to think about changing. That's why people make resolutions in January.

Types of Resolutions Personal Improvement e.g. lose weight, eat less junk food, exercise more, watch less TV, spend less time gaming, get outside more, etc. Family or Friends e.g. be more patient with your little brother or sister, be more helpful to your parents, spend more time with your friends, visit your grandparents more often, etc. School and the Outside World e.g. get to class on time, pay better attention in class, try for better grades, spend more time studying, get more involved in extra-curricular activities, volunteer, etc.

Draft of Resolutions List at least TWO resolutions for each of the following: PERSONAL IMPROVEMENT: FAMILY AND FRIENDS:


Organize Introduction: State the quote and explain what the quote means Briefly state what your three most important resolutions will be for this year (you should have at least one for each type) Body: Resolutions one, two and three (one paragraph each – clearly explain why and how how you will achieve your goals). Be very specific and provide descriptive examples to support your statements. Have a clear topic sentence and a clincher statement Conclusion: Restate and sum up what you will do and how you will do it. End with a thoughtful reflection.
