EDUCATING OUR OFFICIALS MOTOCROSS COMMISSION

Flag Marshals

Flag Marshals General Must be minimum 18 years old Preferably holding a marshal’s licence Must wear uniform shirts or bibs in no case yellow or red) Minimum 2 marshals available per post (one to use the flag) (one to give assistance to a rider in the interest of safety) Additional marshals are recommended at jumps Must have participated in a briefing with an appointed official Must be on his position in due time Must remain available until protest/appeal time has expired Flag marshals are the eyes of the riders Briefing: preferably on Friday evening with all marshals If not possible, then on Friday a briefing with at least the Chief Flag Marshal

Flag Marshals What to do? In your section during races: Arrive in time to carry out your duties Take your right position Keep your eyes constantly focussed on your area of responsibility Be aware of your safety when taking action Remain at your post unless you are being replaced Note down any irregularities and report to the Chief Flag Marshal Wear protective clothing (own or provided by the organiser)

In your section during races: Forget your flags and/or bib Get distracted Over-react Touch or move a fallen rider Help a rider re-start his motorcycle Become a fan and encourage riders on the track Leave your post without being replaced Do not over-react: Use the right signal for the situation you are dealing with Know when to use a steady, waved yellow and/or medical flag Do not touch or move a fallen rider: medics take care of injured riders, not the flag marshal

Flag Marshals What not to do? Flag Marshals 6 Be distracted Become a fan Help a rider to restart his mortorcycle

Flag Marshals How to report an irregularity? Contact the Chief Flag Marshal mentioning: Your Post number Your name / Phone number Time of the incident Number of the rider (name + class if possible) Type of incident (short cut, outside assistance, fight, etc.) If necessary, add a drawing Important!!! Remain available for any inquiry Do not leave the circuit before being released The Chief Flag Marshal will contact the CoC/FIM Race Director

Flag Marshals The Chief Flag Marshal Works in cooperation with the FIM Race Director and the Clerk of the Course Should attend the circuit control on the Friday Must participate in the flag marshal briefing Must prepare a list of the marshals with: Post number /Name / First name / Phone number / Date of birth This list must be handed over to the Clerk of the Course Must have radio contact with the Race Director
