Gravity: A force with which to be reckoned.

Balanced vs. Unbalanced Forces Force = the cause of acceleration or change in velocity. Net Force = combination of all the forces acting on an object. Balanced - combined forces acting on an object that produce a net force equal to 0. Unbalanced - combined forces acting on an object that produce a non-zero net force.

Gravity Is an attractive force that acts between any two objects. Examples: Between the Earth and MHS. Between The Earth and you. Between you and the person sitting next to you. The greater the mass of an object the greater is gravitational attraction.

“Mass” Is referred to as the amount of matter in an object. Ex: Mrs. Bonds mass is about 67 kilograms.

“Free Fall Acceleration” Occurs when the force of gravity is the only force acting on an object. In absence of air resistance, all objects near the earth’s surface accelerate at a rate of 9.8 m/s2. Gravity (g) = 9.8 m/s2

Weight Weight is the gravitational force an object experiences due to its mass. Your weight is the product of your mass (m) and the pull of gravity (g). W = mg Weight = mass x free-fall acceleration. Ex: Mrs Bonds weight = 67 kg x 9.8 m/s2. This equals 657 N.

Unit of measurement Mass: kg Weight: Newtons Gravity: 9.8m/s/s
