Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) A Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) is a healthcare professional who performs chemical, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological diagnostic analyses on body fluids such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid, as well as other specimens. Medical Laboratory Scientists work in clinical laboratories at hospitals, doctor's offices, reference labs, and biotechnology labs

Definition: “Those attitudes and practices which characterize a responsible laboratory worker and which are necessary to ensure that a person works to a recognized standard which those using the laboratory service can expect to receive”

CODE OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT FOR MEDICAL LAB PERSONNEL Place the well-being of the patients above your own interest Be loyal to your profession by improving your skills and knowledge Work scientifically and with complete honesty

Do not misuse your skills and knowledge for personal gain Never take anything from your place of work that does not belong to you Do not disclose the results of your investigations to any unauthorized person Strict confidentiality Respect and work in harmony with your teams

Be at all times courteous, patient and considerate to the patients and their relatives Promote health care and the prevention and control of disease Follow safety procedures and learn First Aid Do not drink alcohol (West) and Pan (East) during working hours. Do not smoke inside the lab

Use equipment and laboratory ware correctly and with care Do not waste reagents or other laboratory supplies Fulfill reliably and completely the terms and conditions of your employment
