Licensure A registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN)sometimes called a licensed vocational nurse Registered Nurse: is individually licensed in a particular by testing that validates she/he has acquired the basic knowledge required for safe practice. The philosophy is protecting the client, public, from harm. This testing aims to eliminate those not qualified for minimal safe performance; it does not recognize exceptional performance
The purposes and needs for nurse licensure To ensure competency and qualified professional nurses who provide proper care in an attempt to protect the public of harm from negligent and unqualified nurses.
Mandatory licensure Requires anyone who wishes to practice nursing to pass a licensure examination and become registered by the SBN (state board of nursing) A nurse must be licensed in a state in order to work as an RN.
Importance of nurse practice acts - Defining nursing and the scope of practice - Ruling on who can use the titles of registered nurse (RN) and licensed practical nurse - Determining fees for licensure. - Establishing requirements for renewal of licensure. - Determining responsibility for any regulations governing expanded practice for nurses in that particular state.
Professional certification Certification is a granting of credentials to indicate that an individual has achieved a level of ability higher than the minimal level of competency indicated by licensure.
Reasons for revocation of license -Conviction for a serious crime -Demonstration of gross negligence or unethical conduct in the practice of nursing -Failure to renew a nursing license while still continuing to practice nursing -Use of illegal drugs or alcohol during the provision of care for clients or use that carries over and affects clients' care - violation of the state's nurse practice act
Saudi Nursing Licensing Exam (SNLE) What is the SNLE? Saudi Nursing Licensing Exam (SNLE) The SNLE is a three-hour exam that assesses your readiness to practice and/or proceed to postgraduate training. It consists of 150 MCQs .It is a three-hour MCQ examination with scheduled breaks. It is divided into two parts of 75 questions each with time allocation of 90 minutes for each part. There is a scheduled 15 minute break between the two parts. These questions have four options from which the candidate will choose one best answer.
