Developing Characters

Two Types of Characters Round Characters Main characters We know a lot about them Flat Characters Supporting characters We don’t need to know much about them

Why are Characters so Important? Characters make the reader feel like they are experiencing the story Readers connect to the thoughts and experiences of the characters Readers sympathize with the emotions of the characters Lessons learned by the characters are easier for the reader to relate to Characters can add humor, fright, surprise, etc.

Developing your characters: Put yourself in your characters’ shoes. Have your characters react the way YOU might react. Make your characters believable. Give your characters good VOICE. Make sure their personality shows in the story.
