Please ensure that you inform the school if a different family member is collecting your child.

What are we learning this year? Please see the Curriculum Map for the units of work we will be studying this term. We will send further information about what your child will be learning at the start of each term. Below are the IPC topics we are looking forward to throughout the year. Each topic will have an entry and exit point. The exit point sometimes involves inviting parent/carers to celebrate the topic. Please refer to the IPC letter for more information. This will all be on the website.

Class Assembly 2G’s class assembly will take place on 3rd October at 9.05am. 2R’s class assembly will take place on 21st November at 9.05am.

Reading Café Date Monday 8th October 9am On a termly basis we would invite you to a Reading Café in our classroom. This will involve parent/carers to come in and listen to your child read or you read to your child and others in the classroom. The purpose is motivate, encourage and role model reading with your child. Monday 8th October 9am

Please hear your child read daily! Reading books Please hear your child read daily! When ready, children are encouraged to change their own books.

Reading Reading books will be changed when a child has finished them. Children are encouraged to borrow a school library book. 2R’s library day is Tuesday 2G’s library day is Wednesday If a library book is lost, please donate a book to the school. Online program called Reading Eggs where children can read online and practise spellings.

Phonics Phonics is taught in sets, developing the reading skills covered in Year 1. Please see the spellings children will need to learn by the end of Year 2 on the website.

Helping your child at home Spellings – recap regularly Reading – as often as possible to expand your child’s spoken and written vocabulary Handwriting – letter formation Maths – calculations and mental maths, telling the time on analogue, for example o’clock, half past, quarter past/to.

How to help your child at home with reading Reading Skills - different texts, newspapers, magazines, ask children questions, encourage the use of a dictionary. Practise spellings daily, children need to show that they are using the weekly spellings in their writing. Don’t forget to log into Reading Eggs.

How to help your child at home with maths Counting to 1,000. Forward thinking: By the end of Year 4, children should know the times tables up to 12. Mathletics website.

How to help with your child at home with Writing Handwriting practice. Revision on Grammar terms – BBC website. Play games to widen the vocabulary.

Accessing their USO www.lgfl.net Children log in using their username and password. The children can access safe research websites including Mathletics.

E - Safety www.thinkuknow.co.uk Please talk to your child regarding the use of uploading images and videos to websites such as You tube/musically. Use parental controls, please see the website above for further information. If you have any concerns regarding E – Safety please contact a member of staff.

Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat (anything else you know that they might be using). There is an age restriction on these programs, UNDER 13's SHOULD NOT BE USING THESE PROGRAMS! Fortnite is not for children under the age of 12. Games such as Grand Theft Auto is only appropriate for children ages 18 and over -due to inappropriate language and content. Please add privacy settings and look into parental controls when using the internet.

WhatsApp’s As of May 2018, WhatsApp’s minimum age of use is 16 years old if you live in the European Union, or a country that has adopted the GDPR, as the UK has. It was previously 13 and WhatsApp has not yet said what will happen to users between 13 and 16 who already held accounts under the old terms and conditions.
