Geoscience Education Research Community Planning Workshop Welcome! Please do the following: Make a name place card (table tent). Find a place to sit near the front of the room (left screen). No need for sitting with your working group at this time. Introduce yourself to others at your table.

Geoscience Education Research Community Planning Workshop This workshop is part of the Geoscience Education Research: Community Synthesis and Planning Project funded by the National Science Foundation, grant DUE-1607543. The project aims to advance geoscience education research and strengthen the GER community of practice. Introduction of leaders – Heather Macdonald, Kim Kastens, Karen McNeal, John McDaris. Note we are not doing whole group introductions but you will have the opportunity to get to know the people at your table now shortly, and then will be talking within your assigned working groups later.

Geoscience Education Research Community Planning Workshop Workshop Builds on: 2015 GER Workshop Ideas and Findings 2016 GER Community Needs Survey and Webinar Pre-Workshop Contributions: Information and Idea Papers Community interest and author preparation for the GER Theme Issue

Geoscience Education Research Community Planning Workshop Workshop Goals: Promote connections, collaborations, and communication within the GER community. Identify and prioritize needs of the GER community, and take actions to address these needs. Identify potential research priorities for the GER community. http://serc.carleton.edu/earth_rendezvous/2016/program/morning_workshops/w3/index.html Thank them for the pre-work contributions – the information submitted and the idea papers – it is a really rich collection. Goals To identify the strengths and limitations of GER findings, and make recommendations for future research. To prioritize the needs of the GER community and progress on action plans to address these needs. To promote connections, collaborations, and communications within the GER community. Workshop activities will be designed to support: Discussion and community-feedback on initial results from in-progress GER literature reviews, Discussion of findings from a Winter 2016 community-wide GER needs survey, Exploration of a GER online "toolbox" design and resource development, and Opportunities for groups to develop action plans to advance GER collaborations and ideas for future research projects.
