“DO NOW”: Daily Notebook We complete a “do now” task in our notebooks DAILY! DOL’s (Tuesday & Thursday) Journals (Mon, Wed & Friday)—1/2 page You will keep track of these in your notebook and I will collect them every 2 weeks. NOTHING ELSE should be in these notebooks! *If you are absent, you are still responsible for these! You may make up journal entries by writing a ½ page on any topic of your choice.

Homework Folder As I collect your homework throughout the week, I will place all your assignments in your homework folder. Every two weeks(ish), I will pull out whatever is in your homework folder and you will receive a grade for the assignments you have submitted. Points will be deducted for missing assignments. All included assignments will be listed on our class website!

Formal Papers All formal papers will be submitted to turnitin.com (or Google Docs…TBD) I will not accept ANY paper submitted after the final due date (even if you are absent). NO EXCEPTIONS, NO EXCUSES!

Class Website Course Guide Assignments/Handouts Power Points Class Calendar Vocabulary Words Helpful Links Powellpage.weebly.com

Absences & Make Up Work KEEP UP WITH THE CLASS CALENDAR AT ALL TIMES!!!! The Powell Oath: (Please copy the following oath three times on a piece of paper) If I am absent, it is MY responsibility to know what I missed in class and complete any missed assignments.

Absences & Make Up Work (cont’d) If there is a test or quiz, you will take it! (You MUST keep up with the class calendar!) If I hand something out in class, if we take notes from a power point, if we copy down vocabulary words, if I give directions for an assignment…you are responsible for all this even if you are absent! Utilize the class website. DO NOT ask me what you missed.

Late Work During the 1st Quarter 10% grade reduction for late work For the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Quarters… I will NOT accept ANY late work Technological/Computer issues are NOT an excuse!

Grading Tests/Quizzes 35% Papers/Projects 35% Homework/Classwork 30% The only “retakes” I offer are on major papers and projects. NO TEST OR QUIZ MAY BE RETAKEN.

How to Succeed in an Honors Course Organization is paramount—GET A PLANNER AND USE IT! Absolutely no cheating of any kind is tolerated Participate and communicate Check the gradebook and the classroom website frequently!

Keep up Turn in assignments on time Check the gradebook frequently…especially when absent! Monitor your grade Use class website…it’s there for YOU! It is YOUR responsibility to check the class calendar on a regular basis. You should always know what’s going on in class before you get there!

Forbidden questions: What are we doing today? What are we doing tomorrow? Did I miss anything yesterday? What did we do last Thursday?

Tardiness is not acceptable The door closes when the bell rings. After that, you must go to the office. I will not be able to maintain my high opinion of you if you are consistently late to my class.

Be respectful Follow classroom procedures at all times If I am talking, you are not The bell signals the end of class…do not pack up or wander before then

One Final Thought This course will be challenging. Expect a lot of work OUTSIDE of class— homework, reading, projects, writing, etc. My expectations for your attendance, behavior, and work ethic are high; they will not be lowered.
