AWARENESS and REMINDERS March 8 Clubs College Fair—please encourage your students to attend BOE Work Session March 15—Faculty Meeting March 16 — 6:45 Make-up Faculty Meeting Additional Coverage—we will return to our original duty coverage starting Monday, March 12th. If you are willing to come in at 7:00, provide additional support at an entrance, cover lunch and then leave when students clear the building for the rest of the year, please email me. (This is only for people who did first semester duties.) March 15 – 18—Spring Musical--be sure you make plans to attend one of the performances. They are always excellent! Lots of baseball, soccer, track, tennis, and golf going on after school. Check the POW WOW and enjoy a nice evening outside while supporting our students!

FOCUS AREA: Improve Literacy 1—Have students ANNOTATE TEXT FOCUS AREA: Improve Literacy 1—Have students ANNOTATE TEXT!!!! Do this a couple of times a week. This strategy makes a huge difference with comprehension and is a tool students will need for their EOCs. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! 3—Remind your students of their SRI Lexile levels. 4—Use those Lexiles to differentiate for students. 5—Continue providing productive feedback on the daily, weekly, and extended writing requirements. 6—Provide students with opportunities to READ and then frequently check for comprehension.

FOCUS AREA: Increase Rigor As we get closer to EOCs, it is important that all teachers are focused on questions that require our students to THINK, COMPARE/CONTRAST, EXPLAIN, ANALYZE, etc. Some tips: 1—Have student ANNOTATE TEXT!!!! Do this a couple of times a week. This strategy makes a huge difference on the EOCs and our students need to practice! 2—Instead of a long test, ask 2-5 questions that “build on” each other and require detailed explanations. 3—Collaborate with an EOC teacher and use some of their practice questions as your starters. Do not tell students the correct answer until students explain their answer choices. 4—Give students two articles on different perspectives of a topic. Have the students compare/contrast the two viewpoints, share which side they would support, and explain why.
