Gaviiformes Loon (Gaviidae)

Characteristics These birds are aquatic so they can dive into water, they are found in the USA and in Eurasia The loons (both male and female) both have the same Plumage ( patterns on there back, head, and neck) The Gaviiformes are one of the few species to molt from there feathers They eat mostly fish provided by underwater life They nest near pond or small lakes in summer The male chooses the nesting grounds for the eggs There are 2 eggs in a clutch Males could have multiple partners and 1/3 of them die because of territorial evictions When catching fish they wait patiently and by surprise they go under the water and catch fish
