Family

What is a family? Two or more people who live together and care for each others basic needs.

What do families do ? Give us a name, our social and legal identity Teach us how to behave in society

What do families do ? Influence how we cope in situations, living and relationships Pass on beliefs, VALUES And your sense of identity . Provide support and help with your problems

What do families do ? Cater to all aspects of health Physical needs: Food, Shelter , clothing Social: financial support, socialisation Emotional: love, security and support Spiritual: sense of belonging, morals and values.

What types of families are there?

Traditional / Nuclear Two parents and one or more children living together.

Two Families Parents are split up and both parents are remarried/in a relationship with/without children. Being part of two blended families.

De Facto Two adults living together (unmarried) with or without children

Single Parent One parent living with one or more children

Extended A Grandparent or other relative living with other family members.
