Social Reconstruction

People Carpetbaggers-people from the north that took advantage of people from the south Scalawags-people from the south that took advantage of other southerners.

Conflict Freedmen’s Bureau- Established to make sure former slaves votes (teach them to read and write) PROBLEM: Ended up a social help organization food, clothes, shelter,etc.. KKK- established 1865 Pulaski Tenn. to make sure former slaves did NOT vote.

Religion Some denominations reunited when the war ended and some did not. Reunited: Episcopalians Methodist Did NOT reunite: Baptist and Presbyterian Henry Turner- established the A.M. E church
