Henry of Navarre & Edict of Nantes By Matt and Tori

Who was involved? For years, there have been wars between the Protestants and the Catholics. Henry of Navarre, Frances Ruler, helped stop the fighting

Henry of Navarre French Ruler/nobleman Was born on December 14th, 1553 Died May 14th, 1610 In 1569 he went into the army to start his military career (Admiral de Coligny) When King Henry III died, Henry of Navarre took the throne by fighting his way through the Catholic military

What Happened? In France, the a group of Protestants fought against the Catholic's for years. The fighting finally came to an end when Henry of Navarre, Frances leader, converted from Protestant to Catholic. When he converted, the Catholics finally accepted him as their King.

What happened? On April 15th, 1598, King Henry of Navarre wrote the Edict of Nantes The Edict of Nantes gave religious freedom to the Protestants and the Catholics The Edict of Nantes also helped end the wars between the Catholics and the Protestants

Edict of Nantes The Edict of Nantes was written so that there could be peace in France and in the rest of Europe. Written and signed in 1598

How does this event show religious disunity in Europe? This shows religious conflict in France because before Henry of Navarre converted from Protestant to Catholic faith, and before he wrote and signed the Edict of Nantes, the Catholics and Protestants were fighting in a religious war. Because they were in war, it showed religious disunity in France/Europe
