3rd November 2013: 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel: Luke Ch. 19: 1 - 10

Jesus and Zacchaeus

Zacchaeus was a chief collector – rich but unpopular

He was unhappy and lonely, feared by his neighbours because he was a tax collector.

Zacchaeus tried to find peace but it was Jesus who took the initiative.

Jesus was passing by but Zacchaeus could not see him because he was a short man.

He climbed a tree. Jesus saw him and called him and (invited Himself to the house of Zacchaeus). Again Jesus took the initiative.

Zacchaeus was surprised, hurried down the tree and received Jesus in his house with joy.

The crowd started grumbling: why?

Because Jesus entered the house of a sinner???

Zacchaeus repented (was sorry for his sins) and promised to help those in need.

The presence of Jesus changed Zacchaeus. The presence of Jesus will change us if we allow him to enter our house, our heart and soul.
