Three things must be present to produce fire: Oxygen Heat Fuel
Class A-wood, paper, cloth, trash, plastics. Class B-Flammable liquids, gasoline, grease, oil, acetone Class C-Energized electrical equipment Class D-Metals, potassium, sodium, magnesium, aluminum
APW Fire Extinguishers Air-pressurized water Large, silver filled with 2/3 water Pressurized with water 2 ft. tall and weigh approximately 25 lbs. Class “A” fires only APWs remove heat
CO2 Fire Extinguishers Filled with non-flammable carbon dioxide gas Recognize by horn and lack of pressure gauge 5lbs. to over 100lbs. B and C fires only Can cause freeze burns
Dry Chemical AB and ABC ratings Coats fuel with a fine layer of powder agent such as: monoammonium phosphate Nitrogen is the typical pressurizing agent
Assist persons in immediate danger Activate alarms, if present Then, use fire extinguisher on insipient-stage fires only
Never fight a fire if: You don’t know what is burning If the fire is out of control and/or is spreading rapidly You don’t have the right equipment You might inhale smoke or otherwise put yourself in a dangerous situation If, for any reason you’re not comfortable with the fire or prevailing conditions
