Great Depression and New Deal (1929-1936) What is the government’s role in providing for its citizens?

Government Response to the G.D. President Hoover President F.D. Roosevelt Believed that it was NOT the government’s job to help the people “Rugged individualism” President who has receives blame for the depression due to his ineffective response Which president do you agree with and why? Believed that the government’s job was to help the people in economic crisis. President who created the New Deal & is credited for getting the US out of the Depression. Responsible for creating the idea of government welfare

New Deal Program created by Roosevelt that provided assistance to people during the Great Depression. Three components: Relief*- government agencies that provided immediate assistance to people, such as money, food, etc. Reform*- government agencies that made changes (laws) to how business is done and the government's role in the economy Recovery*- government agencies created to get people back to work Jobs Programs*- WPA-Works Progress Administration, largest of the New Deal Agencies. CCC-Civilian Conservation Corps, created jobs for unemployed youth Provide examples of what the government does today to assist unemployed or low income people.
