Prokaryote and Eukaryote Gabriela, Nico and Stephanie

Prokaryote? -A one celled organism -No nucleus or membrane -Prokaryote are filled with cytoplasm -The only internal structure that exist in prokaryote are ribosomes, which gives protein to the organism. -Prokaryote includes Archea, Bacteria and cyanobacteria. ex: Cyanobacteria-First bacteria

Eukaryote? A Eukaryote is an organism that contains a nucleus and other organelles.Eukaryote includes all living organisms. Ex: Plant, animals, fungi

Main differences The main difference between prokaryote and eukaryote is that prokaryote does not contains a nucleus or membrane organelles and eukaryote does.

How do plant, animal, and bacterial cells compare in size? Plant and animal cells are larger than bacterial cells. Animal cells range from 10 to 30 micrometers and plant cells from 10 to 100. Bacterial cells are only 2 micrometers or less. How do plant, animal, and bacterial cells compare in size?

How do plants, animal, and bacterial cells alike and different? The plant cell is rectangular and has a cell wall and has a larger vacuole. Unlike in animal cells the centrioles are only present in lower plant forms. And the plant cell has plastids, the animal cell does not. Bacterial cell is prokaryotic and the plastids, mitochondria and other cell organelles are absent. The bacterial cell does not have chloroplast.

What organelles are found only in plants? Chloroplast(^) The central vacuole Cell walls

In animals? -Centriole (found in the cytoplasm, functions in the division of animal cells) -Cilia (hair-like structures, mucus in lungs or eggs in oviduct) -Flagella (similar to the cilia, movement) -Cytoskeleton (fills the cytoplasm, only in eukaryotic cells) -Microfilaments (protein fibers, like actin and myosin) -Microtubules (long round tubes) -Intermediate filaments (made of proteins, strength to the cytoplasm)

Bacterial vs plant cell walls Bacterial cell walls are different from the plant cell wall because the bacterial cell wall contain peptidoglycan, helps the cell wall be firm; small particles cannot pass through it. While the bacterial cell wall protects the bacteria from pressure.

Cilia are short and there are many cilia per cell Cilia are short and there are many cilia per cell. While, flagella are bigger and there are only a few flagella per cell. Cilia vs flagella
