Nickname Centennial State… Why? Colorado became a state in 1876 The same year the USA turned 100 years old!

Capital Denver, CO This wasn’t always true Leadville was slated to be the capital but it was too hard to get to and it was too wild of a town… The next town was Golden (territory), there is a restaurant there called the Ol’ Cap because of this… It was a frontier town and grew to be the large city you all know today

Politics Governor- John Hickenlooper Number of US Representatives- 7 Known as a swing state

Bordering States Kansas Oklahoma New Mexico Utah Wyoming Nebraska

State Flag The red "C" stands for both Colorado and Centennial State. The C-shaped emblem contains the colors of Spain who originally claimed the area. The gold ball represents the state's gold production and its wealth of sunshine. The white stripe symbolizes Colorado's silver wealth and mountain snow. The blue stripes represent the sky. The flag was adopted in 1911.

State Symbols State Motto: Nil sine Numine (Nothing without Providence) What does that mean? State Flower: Columbine State Bird: Lark Bunting State Tree: Colorado Blue Spruce State Mammal: Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep State Fish: Greenback Cutthroat Trout t recurring intervals, discussion has ensued concerning interpretation of this Latin phrase which commonly translated is "'Nothing without providence'". Others say it is "Nothing without God". Merriam Webster's translates it as "Nothing without the divine will".[3] In the early mining days of the State, the unregenerate said it meant "nothing without a new mine".[2] The word "numen" (ablative numine) means any divinity, god or goddess, or divine spirit. The best evidence of intent of Colorado's official designers and framers of the resolution for adoption of the seal is contained in the committee report wherein clear distinction was made between "numine" and "Deo" and it specifically states that the committee's interpretative translation was "Nothing without the Deity
