Today we will… Identify how to write aims for an investigation in Modern Studies. What a hypothesis is. Outline how to write a hypothesis for a Modern Studies investigation.

Success Criteria I can write a relevant hypothesis with corresponding aims.

Hypothesis This is a statement – NEVER a question! It is a statement that you can test to see if it is true or false. It is a statement that you can prove or disprove.

Hypothesis Boys never behave in class. All girls get achieve top marks in Modern Studies. A good hypothesis will be slightly provocative or exaggerated. Such hypothesis are easier to prove or disprove.

Think, Pair, Share Try and come up with a hypothesis- it can be on any subject. Write this down in your jotter. Share the answers with the person next to you. Class discussion.

Making your Hypothesis In the exam, your hypothesis MUST relate to the TOPIC and must be quite SPECIFIC. For example if you were carrying out an investigation about HEALTH: ALL people in Scotland are unhealthy because they consume too many fatty foods.

Aims Once you have stated your Hypothesis, you need to state two aims Aims are things you have to find out to prove or disprove your hypothesis.

How to write your aims Your aims can be questions – e Or they can begin with phrases such as ‘to find out’ – eg.

Topic for Investigation: My hypothesis is: My aims are: 1. 2.

I can write a relevant hypothesis with corresponding aims. Was I successful? I can write a relevant hypothesis with corresponding aims.
