Cell Organelle Study Guide

1. What are the organelles that a plant cell has that an animal cell does not have? Plants have chloroplast, a cell wall, and a single large central vacuole.

A structure in a cell that performs a special function. 2. Define Organelle A structure in a cell that performs a special function.

3. What is the function of golgi bodies in a cell? Golgi bodies receive proteins and other compounds in the ER and release materials to other parts of the cell.

4. Which organelle contains enzymes that break things down in a cell? Lysosomes

5. The manger’s office can be compared to which organelle? Explain why ? The manager’s office can be compared to the nucleus because it is the control center of the cell.

6. Define cell as we described it in class. A cell is a small compartment that holds all biological equipment necessary to keep organisms alive and successful on Earth.

7. How can the cytoskeleton be compared to the walls and studs in a factory? It gives the cell its structure and shape just like the walls of a factory give the factory its structure and shape.

8. What is the function of the endoplasmic reticulum in a cell? The endoplasmic reticulum transports protein from one part of the cell to another.

9. A large central vacuole is found in which type of cell? Plant Cell

10. What is the function of the large central vacuole? The large central vacuole stores cell sap which helps to give plant cells their structure and rigidity.

11. What is the function of the cell membrane. The cytoplasm keeps the cytoplasm inside while letting waste out and nutrients in.

12. What is the cytoplasm made up of in a cell? The cytoplasm is a substance between cell membrane and nucleus that contains organelles and other compounds the cell needs.

13. How does the cytoskeleton give a cell its structure and shape? It’s a series of fibers made from proteins which gives the cell structure and shape.

14. The function of chloroplast is to: The function of chloroplast is to convert light energy into chemical energy in the form of molecules through a process called photosynthesis.

A group of organs working together to do a certain job. 15. Define System: A group of organs working together to do a certain job.

YOU WILL NEED TO BE ABLE TO identify the parts of A PLANT CELL AND AN ANIMAL CELL!
