Sandon Neighbourhood Development Plan and Questionnaire Results

Overview What is a Neighbourhood Plan What is happening in Sandon Questionnaire Questionnaire results Vision What next?

What is a Neighbourhood development plan? (NDP) Agreed by Parliament 2011 (Localism Act) Part of Local Planning process Opportunity to contribute thoughts about where new houses will be built preserving green spaces, rural views, wildlife what sort of housing developments where business should be located

What is happening in Sandon? Your parish council agreed to form an NDP group in October 2017 4 Parish Councillors and 5 parishioners Chelmsford City council agreed Sandon NDP process on 2nd November 2017 Sandon NDP website: ndp4sandon.co.uk Questionnaire sent out February 2018

Questionnaire Thank you to all who responded £50 winner announced at Annual Assembly You have given us information about: what you love in Sandon what you want to see and not want to see maybe thoughts towards OUR SHARED VISION FOR SANDON

Questionnaire Results 25% Respondents: 163 completed out Not all replies gave their age of 650 delivered

Questionnaire Results 1 Living in Sandon – what is important to you?

Questionnaire Results 2 If more houses were built – what type?

Questionnaire Results 3 and 4 What style of new housing would you prefer?

Questionnaire Results 5 What size of development would you prefer? (Note 10 or less rather than less than 10 as on questionnaire)

Some of your comments about housing We need more houses to accommodate the growing younger community who still wish to stay and live in Sandon We do not have the infrastructure for large scale developments Spacing between new houses should be maintained according to existing. The village envelope should not be extended

Questionnaire Results 7 Commercial Buildings – which type of site would you prefer?

Questionnaire Results 8 What would improve living standards here?

Questionnaire Results 9 Important public facilities

Questionnaire Results 9 (again) More important public facilities

Questionnaire Results 10 What facilities would you like to see provided by any future development?

Questionnaire Results 11 How important is protection/enhancement of local heritage and environment?

Questionnaire Results 12 Do you support renewable energy schemes? In some circumstance for wind eg ‘appropriate’ or ‘at sea’ or ‘on the coast’ For solar eg ‘discrete’, preferably on commercial buildings’

More of your comments – a small selection Organised pedestrian and bike paths from Park & Ride to village needed Speed cameras and bumps needed Increase in number of GPs and a New Junior school needed A green wedge should be maintained along Molrams Lane. Stop allowing small dwellings from being converted to large 5 bedroom dwellings.

Draft Vision Sandon will be a village community, clearly separated from neighbouring settlements by green space, preserving a rural character Small housing developments will maintain a mix of housing size and type with good access to the Park and Ride by foot and bike This and any other essential building growth, must acknowledge the concerns of Sandon residents about present infrastructure, as traffic and roads, medical and educational facilities are already working to capacity

What Next? Vision Objectives Policies Ask Chelmsford to approve our PLAN Independent examination of the PLAN Referendum
