Give as you Live Help to raise funds for St Mary’s charity of the year This year it’s Riding for the Disabled, Gaddesden Place Generate donations when you shop online General intro, putting into context of fundraising for RDA Gaddesden Place. Principle is that you can earn money for the RDA simply by shopping online as normal.
An overview of the process. Very simple! Will say more about each stage.
Supported by major firms ‘Give as you live’ launched in 2010 as easy way to raise free funds for charity Has raised more than £7M for over 8,500 charities More than 4,000 online retailers have agreed to give percentage of every purchase made via GAYL to charity. Here are just a few examples of logos. Virtually all the mainstream retailers are involved.
Getting started Go to GAYL site via link we’ll supply in email and on St Mary’s website (doubles the first £5 you earn). Click on link to sign up.
Select St Mary’s You will be asked to choose a cause to support. Choose The Parochial Church Council … MOST IMPORTANT to use full title since there are other Redbourn and St Mary’s causes listed. NB Although this sounds like a general pot of money for the Church it is actually dedicated to the annual charity. We use this title so we don’t have to change it each year. All funds that go into this cause will go to the RDA in 2016.
Your name and email address These are the only details you have to supply. They will not be passed on to anyone else.
Welcome screen You will then see this screen, showing you have successfully signed up. But remember to scroll down to an important message about a ‘reminder’ app!
Download reminder app You will find this as you scroll down. Click on ‘Find out more’.
Install reminder app You will be led to this screen, where you can click to install the reminder app. There will then be a few ‘small print’ messages, to which you can safely agree, and the app will then be installed. Note – you don’t have to install this app but it will help to make sure you don’t miss an opportunity to raise money for the charity if you do.
When you search for types of retailer the GAYL logo will appear against those that will donate to your cause through GAYL.
Start shopping! Remember to go to the retailer via the GAYL site or through the GAYL logo on your browser toolbar (top right hand). If you forget, your browser might remind you that you should turn on GAYL before you start shopping, but it won’t pick up all retailers. No doubt this example of Amazon shopping will be familiar to St Mary’s people! NB nothing will cost you more than normal. The retailers pay the donation out of their profits and hope this will encourage more people to shop with them.
Emails will update you Some time after you have finished shopping you will get an email confirming how much you have just raised for your nominated charity. You will also see your running total each time you log on to GAYL. Nobody else will be able to see what you have bought. We are only able to see total sums raised.
Please sign up! We have sent an email to all those on St Mary’s list containing all this information and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, the link to use when signing up. We shall be happy to give technical help in the unlikely event that you hit any problems with signing up or using GAYL – contact details in the email. Any questions now?
