Welcome to Grade 2

Who am I? Mrs. Leah Kowalczyk This will be my 11th year of teaching in the Calgary Board of Education. With CBE I have taught Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 I am excited to continue along the path of learning where I left off last year with the grade 1’s! I am fortunate to have tow beautiful children of my own. An 8 year old boy and a 11 year old girl.

The 3 R’s of my Classroom: Respect – for yourself, others, and our environment. Responsibility – for your things at school, at home and for our behaviors. Reflection – Have I tried my best? How can I make my work better?

The Grade 2 Team

The TLC Program provides a structured classroom experience for each and every student… TLC is teacher directed, whole and small group instruction with guided inquiry. The focus of TLC is on character development and gradual release of responsibility. (I do, we do, you do)

Grade 2 Curriculum…..If you would like to know more about our programs of study… Please visit… https://education.alberta.ca/programs-of-study/ www.learnalberta.ca These sites will be added to my Weebly website as well.

Daily Homework: Mandatory component of the TLC program. Begins on Friday September 14th and is due on Thursday the 20th (The spelling test will take place on Fridays). The homework should take up to 10 – 15 minutes per day once they know the routines. Homework will be reinforcing the skills learned in class. We will check it on Thursdays to make sure it is done. It is the parents responsibility to make sure it is done on time, has been checked with a parent’s initial. It will be uploaded every Friday and due the following Thursday.

Communication: Will be done via email this year. If you know of any appointments, absences, concerns, please do so via email to myself and let the office know too. Great way for the teachers and parents to communicate. Important notices and newsletters will be sent home in communication book. The Weebly Website will be updated with important information, weekly blogs, and resources to access.

Uniform expectations: ALL Mondays are FORMAL days. Students need a pair of gym shoes to stay at school which they can get on and off, and a pair of black dress shoes. There will be uniform checks weekly. Please label ALL clothing, especially sweaters.
