School Organisation Review Bedford Borough Council is consulting (meeting and discussing) on how your schools in Bedford are organised and they want to know what you think.

School Organisation Review We have a 3 tier school system which means you go to a lower, middle and upper school. Other places in the country have a 2 tier school system where pupils go to a primary and a secondary school. Primary schools : 4 – 11 years Secondary schools : 11 – 18 years

School Organisation Review Bedford Borough Council has asked people what they think of changing from 3 tier to 2 tier… …and now it’s your turn to have a say…

School Organisation Review What do you think about changing from 3 tier to 2 tier???

School Organisation Review To help you think about this carefully lets look at the advantages and disadvantages of both school systems…

School Organisation Review 3 Tier - Advantages/Good/Positive It is the system you and your family know best. Your schools would not have to be reorganised. Middle schools can provide good care for pupils like you as they approach their teenage years. You start having lessons taught by specialist subject teachers earlier. Middle schools help to prepare you for the move to upper schools particularly if you went to a small lower school.

School Organisation Review 3 Tier - Disadvantages/Bad/Negative You have to change school twice. Both changes happen during Key Stages. The change at age 13 is too close to when you will choose your GCSE options. Because there are fewer middle schools than primary and secondary it might be more difficult to get middle school teachers in the future. We would have to spread the money from the government around more schools.

School Organisation Review 2 Tier - Advantages/Good/Positive You would change school once and this change would probably be at the end of Key Stage 2 (end of Year 6). If you change at 11 you have more time to think about your GCSE options. You would stay longer in your first school. Government money would not have to be shared out to as many schools.

School Organisation Review 2 Tier - Disadvantages/Bad/Negative You would be in much larger schools. The Borough Council would have to reorganise the school system we have now. Your middle school, along with many others, would close down. Extra money would have to be spent on extending lower schools.

School Organisation Review Through your PSHCE lessons you will take part in a questionnaire. So; give it some thought …. … 3 Tier… … or … … 2 Tier?
